Politiphysics

This page is devoted to a new endeavor of mine – Politiphysics.

The new science of Politiphysics deals with the mathematical aspects of political (to be precise – both economic and political) life of society, a mathematical branch of the political economy (and philosophy) if you will. While working on numerous political and ideological articles for many years, I suddenly realized that we use many terms that do not have any formal mathematical definitions (like, for example, freedom or revolution.) The goal of politiphysics is to fill that void.

Abstract: A simple classical mechanics model is proposed to describe the political dynamics of human society. The model provides a mathematical structure for the philosophy of the state-man paradigm. The proposed model borrows many classical mechanical terms and generalizes them into the political domain. The well-known political terms (like freedom and revolution) are given mathematical definitions. Several abstract but solvable problems are presented to demonstrate the general principles of politiphysics, including the Laffer curve and effects of war, immigration, and random forces on society’s momentum of inertia.

Abstract: A formal theory of meaning (the process of knowledge accumulation) as multiplicative chaos is proposed. The epistemological process is understood as the process of subjective extraction of some knowledge from the incoming information. The concepts of nonsense are introduced as a meaning that has a minimum value equal to one and the level of intelligence as a geometric mean of the cumulative meaning. The thesis of the multiplicativity of meaning, its polymorphism is substantiated, and numerous examples from world history are provided. By analogy with classical thermodynamics, three laws of thermodynamics of meaning are postulated. Estimates of the cumulative meaning when the comprehension of information (multiplicative cascade) is a random process with given statistical characteristics are carried out.

  1. “A simple classical mechanics model is proposed to describe the political dynamics of human society.”

Using some mental gymnastics, like post hoc rationalization (formulating after the fact, Monday morning quarterbacking) or apophenia (the tendency to mistakenly perceive connections and meaning between unrelated things) or countless other known irrational habits of human mind, anything can be proposed to describe anything. Those descriptions very well maybe somewhat entertaining. Or they may even look scientific.
But at the end of the day they are profoundly useless. Why? Because if causal relationship, a working mechanism between the model and what it is proposed to describe cannot be establish experimentally, by successfully predicting future outcomes with scientific confidence level, then the whole thing is just a huge,,meaningless word salad. And why would anyone rational pay any attention to a huge,,meaningless word salad?

So, two simple questions to the author.

What is the causal relationship between classical mechanics and political dynamics of human society?
Based on your model, can you make any predictions that would reliably outperform a dumb luck?

  2. I am really excited about your new endeavor. I hope it will get great recognition among scientists and general public. Your thoughts are amazing! Good luck!
